8 On-Mountain Adventures for Memorial Day Weekend

May 23, 2018

And just like that, it’s the unofficial start to summer! Many of our ski areas are coming out of their springtime hibernation to open their summer activities for Memorial Day Weekend. While most will be open weekends only until part way through June, the long weekend is the perfect time to explore with family and friends. Plan your trip with these adventures in mind.

Take in the Views on the Bretton Woods Canopy Tour

Yes—this is a year-round activity at Bretton Woods, but now that the leaves have filled in the trees and the weather is warming up, you can feel the breeze and the adrenaline rush in a whole new way on the Canopy Tour. This three-hour adventure carries you across the treetops and features amazing views of the Presidential Range.

Reach New Heights on the Tram at Cannon Mountain

The Cannon Mountain Aerial Tramway is one of the best ways to take in the views of Franconia Notch. Hop aboard the 80-passenger cable bar and climb all the way to 4,080 feet in elevation in under ten minutes. With short hiking trails, an observation deck, a café, and a bar, this is a great spot to kick off your summer. Just be sure to leave Fido at home—pets are not permitted to ride on the Tram.

Knock Around in a Knockerball

Cranmore Mountain Resort’s Mountain Adventure Park has many activities, but thrill-seekers will certainly want to check out the all-new Knockerball attraction. Each person has their own bubble that is worn like a backpack and allows you to bounce off of other participants like you have your own force field.

Hit the Trails at Great Glen Trails

Set at the foot of famous Mount Washington, Great Glen Trails not only has amazing scenic views throughout their trail system, but you can explore on foot with a Trail Tracker Scavenger Hunt to keep track of how many animals you spot, or hit the trails on a bike. Rentals are available if you don’t want to bring your own. Plus, this trail system is right across the street from the Mount Washington Auto Road, which is a must on your summer checklist.

Zoom Down the Mountain Coaster at Gunstock Mountain Resort

The Mountain Coaster brings the excitement of a roller coaster to the beautiful slopes of Gunstock Mountain Resort. The two-person car flies down the track through the trees with its own braking system to help you get to a comfortable speed (or go super-fast). This is just one part of their summer offerings but is definitely worth the trip on its own.

Find Thrills on the Aerial Forest Adventure Park at Loon Mountain Resort

Picture yourself as Tarzan swinging on a vine in the Aerial Forest Adventure Park at Loon Mountain Resort. Elements vary from 9 to over 40 feet from the ground, and include ziplines, a trapeze bridge, oscillating walk, Tibetan bridge, chain loops, tight rope, suspension bridge, ladders, and more.

Send It on the Evolution Bike Park at Mount Sunapee Resort

This full-service, lift-accessed mountain bike park at Mount Sunapee Resort runs the gamut from family-friendly berms for learning the ropes to the completely gnarly “Rock This Way” single track experience. Lessons and rentals are available if you’re new to the sport or don’t have your own gear, and you can select your trail pass for two-hours, four-hours, or the full day.

Enjoy Chowder and Beer at Waterville Valley Resort

If you’re looking to kick back, relax, and enjoy some delicious eats, the 29th Annual Chowderfest and Brews at Waterville Valley should be on your list. With plenty of live music in the Town Square, an Animal Encounter show with New Hampshire Wildlife, and the Casting for Kirby Youth Fishing Derby, you won’t run out of things to do.

The events calendar and activities only get sweeter as the summer rolls on. Make your plans today!
